Bowling Green: Aviation Heritage Park F-4, F9F, F-111,
SH-3H, T-33, T-38, UH-1. May 2023 - I know I stopped by the
Aviation Heritage Park between December 2018 and May 2023. There
was nothing new to report, as construction had stopped on the new museum
and no new aircraft had been added. When I stopped by on May 10,
2023, I knew ahead of time that the SH-3H had been added to the
collection and my purpose for stopping by early in the morning while on
a trip was to photograph it. I was totally surprised to find that
the museum building was complete and expected to open in the fall of
2023. This was an exciting discovery and a great way to start out
my trip!
This was my first of many photos taken over the next four days of my
trip to several aviation museums. I had left home early, and this
photo was taken just as the sun was coming up over Bowling Green, KY.
It was 6:29 am local time.
The museum building looks complete from the
exterior and now requires displays to be added to the interior.
This SH-3H was the reason for my stop.
I saw that it had been added to the excellent collection of aircraft
flown by Bowling Green natives while in the military.

April and December 2018 - The Aviation Heritage Park in Bowling
Green has been a work in progress since I took my first photos there in
2008. In the ten years since five more aircraft have been added.
In April I visited the location and a Huey was under restoration inside
an on-site tent. Upon my return in December, not only was the Huey
on display outside as expected, but construction had begun at the park
for a permanent museum at the location. According to the
construction crew, the new museum was expected to open in 2019. It
is always great to hear that a new aviation related museum is going to
open!
In April 2018, the UH-1 was being restored
inside this large tent. In December 2018, the tent was still on
location but was closed the day I visited. It could be waiting for
another aircraft to restore for display.
The Huey was being prepped for painting for
a planned display date in May 2018.
December 2018.
This construction site was a total surprise
to me when I arrived, and the ground is being cleared for construction of
the museum shown in the photo below.

August 2015 - The T-38 was added to the collection on the night
of September 21, 2014, and I was able to stop by and photograph it on an
overcast and rainy day on August 7, 2015. I have been stopping by
the display since 2008 when only the F-4 was on display. There is
room for two more aircraft in the park.

F-4, F9F, F-111, T-33, F-111 October 2013 - The
F-111 was towed out to Veterans' Park on the evening of September 29,
2013, and then placed on display on the 30th. I was able to take
the photos below on October 11th.
There is enough space left for at least two
more aircraft at Veteran's Park, so it will be interesting to see what
is put on display next. Often, Bowling Green a breakfast and fuel
stop for me as I head down south on various trips. Veteran's
Park is about five minutes away from that area, so it is very easy for
me to drive over to see what is new and take photos.

coming years.
