Anderson: Historical Military Armor
Museum UH-1 and OV-1 July 2007
OV-1 update: The OV-1 as of
November 11, 2018 at Vic's Antiques has the wings back on.
It appears the drop tanks are being prepared
for installation.
Museum and OV-1 update: The
Museum closed July 31, 2018 after not being able to pay back taxes, and
the assets of the museum were sold off. While on a trip to
Edinburgh, IN during August 2018, I found the OV-1 Mohawk in pieces at
Vic's Antiques and Uniques. A sad end for such a cool warbird!

Fort Wayne: Air Guard Base A-10, F-4, F-16, F-84, F-86, F-100,
T-33 June 2020
This section shows the change of thirteen
years from 2007 to 2020. I knew that the Air Guard had updated its
display out in front of the base, but had not made the 75 mile trip to
do a photo shoot of the aircraft. Covid changed all of that, as
the trip up to Fort Wayne did not put me in contact with any persons,
and it gave me something to do while museums for the most part were
closed or too risky to visit. Here is what the aircraft display
looks like as of June 2020.
The base now has an airpark where the public
can come in and walk around and visit the aircraft the unit has flown
since its activation after World War Two. The fighters shown here
are in the reverse order from which they were flown. Starting from
the far end of the photo, the aircraft are F-86, F-84, F-100, F-4, F-16,
and A-10. The current aircraft flown by the Fort Wayne Air Guard
is the A-10. In theory, the unit is supposed to move to the F-35
in the future. This is problematic in that the F-35 is an
extremely loud aircraft, and the guard base is co-located with the Fort
Wayne International Airport and business park. It remains to be
seen whether the F-35 actually ends up here.
Fort Wayne flew the F-86A from 1956 to 1958.
Fort Wayne flew the F-84F from 1958 to 1971.
Fort Wayne flew the F-100D/F from 1971 to
1979.
Fort Wayne flew the F-4C/E from 1979 to
1992.
Fort Wayne flew the F-16C from 1992 to 2010.
Fort Wayne has flown the A-10C from 2010 to
the present.
On the opposite side of the parking lot is
this T-33, which represents the F-80s and T-33s it flew from 1954 to
1956.
Before the F-80 the unit
flew the P-51 Mustang. There is a spot in the air park for a P-51,
if one become available for outside display.
March 2012 - The aircraft have been moved out to the front along the
road. It appears this may be opened later as a public air park.

Huntington: Airport F-104
June 2007 - Author's note: As of a visit to the
Huntington Airport on October 8, 2016, the F-104 was no longer on
display at the airport. A new hangar was in the location of the
former Starfighter. The photos of the aircraft will remain for
historical reference.
Huntington: Memorial Park T-33
September 2007 and October 2016- In 2015 the Huntington built
a Veteran's Memorial in the park and moved the T-33 into it. Also
located at the memorial is an M4A1 Sherman tank. The old photos of
the T-33 will be left for historical reference.

UH-1 July 2009 This is the most elaborate and
comprehensive Veterans Memorial we have seen to date. This is
actually is a well landscaped and winding walkway that starts at the end
of the 19th century and takes in all of the wars through the present.
There are date markers along the walkway that gives significant events
that have happened in a particular year. There are sculptures and
memorials for WWI, WWI, Korea, Vietnam, and the first Gulf War. As
can be seen below the Huey is just a small part of the Vietnam section.

Richmond: Airport A-6 July 2007
Very rarely do you see a Navy aircraft on display. Especially at
an airport surrounded by cornfields. An assist goes to Greg
Morehead who notified me of this Intruder, which has been on display at
Richmond since 1996.
May 2023 update: Greg Morehead gets
another assist as he has informed me this aircraft is no longer at the
airport. Some research indicates it moved in April 2022 to the
Wayne County Veterans Memorial Park. I will re-photograph it at
its new location on my next trip to Richmond.

Vincennes:
Indiana Military Museum A-4, F-16, Mig-17, TS-11
Updated February 2016 - The Museum has added four aircraft to its
collection since my initial visit two years ago, bringing its total up
eleven on display.
The PLZ TS-11 Iskra is a Polish jet trainer.
A few have ended up in the US. This is the second one I have seen
over the years.
