Indianapolis 2011 Air Show
Photo Review
Warbirds at Indianapolis Regional
Airport (Mt. Comfort) - May
13-15, 2011
An Indiana Warbird Event
This year with the early date in May
the show was plagued during the weekend with marginal weather on Saturday
and weather on Sunday that prevented the flying of any aircraft at all.
Below are a few of the photos we obtained.
Joe Fagundes flying C-1A 136778 "Mudflap Girl" and leading a three ship
"Missing Man" formation at the Indianapolis Air Show on May 14, 2011.
Mike Gillian is in the FM-2 and Dave Folk the F4U-5. Only at the
Indianapolis Air Show will one see such a unique formation.
This great looking L-17 belongs to Allyn Beaver and is kept at the
Indianapolis Regional Airport.
Blue Angel #7 landing at Indy Regional.
This is the first time since 1986 when the Blues had A-4s that one of
their aircraft has landed at the airport. The team does a remote
show and is based at Indianapolis International Airport for the event.
The reason BA #7 came to the site of the show
is that due to the loss of F-16s in the state there was no longer a
barrier within the required distance as specified by the Blues and
portable unit had to be set up. Here BA #7 catching the cable that
has been installed by the US Marines to verify it works.
The test was a success.
On display after the test. This all
happened Wednesday afternoon before the weekend of the show.
Dave Folk brought in this great looking
Corsair.
The next three warbirds all belong to Rod
Taylor and our hangared at Indy Regional.
Dan Serrato's C-1A 136778 on the ramp Saturday morning. This is the
only Trader currently flying on the air show circuit.
136778 is known as "Mudflap Girl". This was the first appearance for
the COD at the show. Hopefully it will return for future events.
Clouds moved in to the area early in the morning.
Bill and Debby Finney were at the show again with their L-19.
Indiana Air Search and Rescue brought in the Huey and Rodney Davis
provided the L-5.
Jordan and Nicky Brown brought in their C-45 for the second year in a row.
Mike Gillian was on hand with his Eastern Aircraft FM-2.
Brad Deckert brought over his Eastern Aircraft TBM from Illinois.
Heritage Flight with Dale Snodgrass flying the Tom Wood Group P-51
Mustang.
The COD leaving the show Sunday afternoon. There was no air show
flying on Sunday due to the low ceiling during the day. It was
misting most of the day as can be seen in the photo. It was just a
crappy day!
